Skyllas-Kazacos says it is often recommended that these type of batteries receive regular 'top-off'charges during the day when possible, and fully discharging and recharging the battery every 30 charges or so. This reduces the likelihood that the cells get out of balance, and helps maintain the accuracy of the 'fuel gauge'on the device. How do they work? Nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries, which are the original type of rechargeable battery used in consumer electronics, use nickel hydroxide and cadmium electrodes with potassium hydroxide as the electrolyte. They have been largely superseded by nickel-metal-hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. Ni-MH batteries, which are used in consumer electronics and electric cars, offer twice the energy density of nickel-cadmium batteries and are less environmentally damaging as they don't contain heavy metals such as cadmium. They also differ by using a metal alloy negative electrode capable of storing a large amount of electrons. The metal-hydride is produced as the charging product.

In the old days before NCR printing was even envisioned, scribes were hired to duplicate important documents. If anyone wanted a copy of a document it would take months to get the work done. The human nature is never too patient to keep waiting for months and years so they started to research on some easy way and thus the carbon paper was invented. This magical paper was inserted between two pages and the page below the carbon paper would become the exact copy of the original paper. The carbon paper solved many problems but still it was a lot of hard work and messy. The carbon paper would leave its mark on anything that came in contact with its carbonized surface so there were chances of smudging the copy while also smudging the hands. The corporate sector was not satisfied with the carbon paper and they demanded a cleaner and a better way to duplicate their papers. Something was needed with which could serve the same purpose, but eliminate the hassles and the mess. The great moment came in the 1950's when scientists made a breakthrough and emerged with a new product called the 2 part carbonless forms. These papers acted the same as when a carbon paper was kept between two pages. The upper page would leave its marks on the lower page but without any carbon paper in between and without any mess or smudges. These papers became a great success instantly and it was called the NCR paper using the acronym No Carbon Required for marketing purposes. NCR was easy to remember and it also defined its use without any problems. As these papers became available in prints too the process was fairly named NCR printing. The NCR paper can have any number of sheets underneath to get the copy on. Usually companies opt for two pages while some large companies even go to the extent of three pages for the set. A normal 3 pages NCR paper is made up of the following papers. The top sheet which is known as the CB. It is coated backwards with ink. Middle sheet which is known as CBF. It is coated back and front so it receives the impressions on its face and also transfers it to the sheet below it. The last sheet which is known as CF. It is simply coated on the front while the back is plain paper.
