Over the years, men have used several different methods for creating a duplicate copy of their important documents, may they be bank receipts, deposit slips, service forms, pest control invoices, landscaping forms, payment receipts or just about anything. The need of duplication has always been there. Later with the innovations and advancements in the printing industry, the carbon papers came into existence. These carbon papers were special papers coated on one side with a layer of dry ink. This ink was usually bound with wax. The wax used in the manufacturing of carbon papers was called montan wax. This special wax is also known as lignite wax or OP wax. It is a hard wax obtained by solvent extraction of lignite or brown coal. The carbon papers used this wax for making the ink stick with the paper. The carbon paper was mostly used for creating carbon invoices. This special paper was placed between the original sheet and the duplicate sheet. When the user typed on the original sheet, the carbon paper helped creating a duplicate image on the duplicate sheet under it. With the advancements and enhancements in the printing industry, the carbonless invoices were introduced. These special invoices did not require the use of carbon paper for creating a duplicate copy, as they had the capability to create a duplicate copy of their own self. These special custom carbonless forms made the use of carbon paper obsolete. With the advent of these carbonless forms, the manufacturing of carbon paper reduced to half and now it has become almost obsolete method to create duplicate copies using carbon paper. The carbon papers have many disadvantages like they create a mess of ink wherever they are placed. They are also limited to a use of hardly ten to twenty copies. This is the reason why they have almost vanished from the market as soon as their alternative has been introduced. This has minimized the use of montan wax in the market as the companies who manufactured carbon papers were considered to be the biggest consumers of montan wax in the world. The custom carbon copy forms are the best and stain-free alternative to the carbon paper. These special forms work in a fairly simple manner. These forms consist of the sheets of paper which are coated with micro-encapsulated dye or ink and reactive clay.
